Summer Loving con Ivette
I’m just going to come out and say it - Summer is my least favorite season. I won’t say I hate it per se, but I’m convinced it hates me. Regardless, I’ve learned that the key to enduring months of triple digit weather is to intentionally seek out things that cultivate joy. The idea that joy should be found in every season is familiar to many of us but how do we do that? In this season, I’m learning that I find joy when I intentionally make space for health, fun and rest. Here are a few of the ways I’m experiencing joy in the middle of hot summer days and hard life transitions.
For Health
Neurcycling - One thing we are going to highlight often here Latinas Loving Jesus is the importance of caring for our mental health. Beyond therapy, which is a great tool, there are so many resources out there that can help us as we prioritize our mental wellness. Currently, I have been loving neurocycle, a scientifically researched 5 step brain detox developed by Dr. Calonline Leaf. With just a few minutes a day, this app walks you through the process of literally being transformed by the renewing of your thoughts and therefore your mind, yup, straight Bible! If you’ve been overwhelmed or have been battling toxic thoughts, I cannot recommend this enough!
For Rest
Morning Walks - As much as I’m avoiding time outdoors, getting out for a morning walk before the heat of the day has been so life-giving. For someone who lives in my head and heart, moving my body is something that I struggle with, but once I get myself there, I’m always better for it. Sometimes I take my nephews, which makes for the best conversations and sometimes, it’s just me and my dog Azul, which makes for a great time to reflect in silence, pray and reset. Other days, I use this time to neurocycle, which has become my new favorite way to start the day!
For Fun
Revealed on HGTV - Okay, yes, this is another home renovation show but hear me out. If you know me you know, infusing culture and heritage into home design is one of my love languages (I wrote all about it here). That’s exactly what this show does! Veronica Valencia is a Mexican and Native American designer with a passion for redesigning spaces in a way that honors the heritage and history of each family in a distinct way. Sí por favor! This woman is not playing. She brings in genealogy experts, creates a custom heirloom piece for each family and it’s all just magical. The first episode left me in tears, it was that beautiful! You’re welcome.
One More For Fun
Threads - There, I said it. I was on Twitter back in 2009 and I loved it, so this feel a little bit like a fun homecoming. If you want to hang out there and hear me toe the line between pastora and comadre, meet me there!
Con Amor,
Ivette
